The Black Brothers – Michael & Shay Black
are singing siblings from Ireland’s foremost family of song, The Black Family. Their Irish traditional ballads, Dublin street songs, contemporary folk compositions, rollicking reels, and joyful jigs are interspersed with comic stories and humorous childhood anecdotes that invariably have audiences smiling broadly and joining in on the choruses. Group bandmembers L to R: Michael Black (vocals/banjo/guittern), Shay Black (guitar/vocals), Eamonn Flynn (piano/vocals), Felim Egan (accordion/vocals).

For over 34 years The Black Irish Band has created a completely unique sound with both traditional and original music. Sharing their brand of progressive folk music, they have performed in over 500 concerts around the world. Many of their original works are based on Celtic history and are recorded on twenty-five CDs. Pictured are bandmembers Patrick Michael Karnahan (melodeon, octave mandolin, trumpet, guitar, concertina, vocals), James Dean Nelson (banjo, guitar, vocals), Michael Mullen (mandolin, fiddle, vocals), and Micha Dunston (Irish whistle, drum, and the famous Celtic Frog, vocals).

The San Francisco Bay Area’s premiere progressive Celtic/Medieval rock band, Avalon Rising, is set to perform at the second annual Marin Irish Festival, at Lagoon Park, Marin County Fairgrounds. The Ceili on the Lake Championships are presented in association with the Jackie Flynn Irish Dance Academy. Dancers compete to win medals, sashes, perpetual trophies, and cash prizes! Championship winners will compete for the title “Champion of Champions” in a dance-off on the main stage, along with special competitions for all levels and ages. The Marin Irish Festival and Ceili on the Lake Championships, Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4, in beautiful Lagoon Park at the Marin County Fairgrounds.

Alongside featured musical groups, local artists come together to celebrate Irish culture through both modern and traditional music.
